RCLRCL

Royal Caribbean Group and Miami-Dade County broke ground on a $345 million LEED-certified Cruise Terminal G at PortMiami, featuring a multi-level parking garage, intermodal facility and capacity for 7,000 passengers. The Lemartec-NV2A and Perez & Perez design-build is slated for late 2027 delivery to support Icon-class vessels.

1. Groundbreaking Ceremony for Cruise Terminal G

On January 8, 2026, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, PortMiami Director and CEO Hydi Webb and Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty officially broke ground on Cruise Terminal G at PortMiami. The ceremony marked the start of construction led by the Lemartec-NV2A Joint Venture in partnership with Perez & Perez Architects & Planners. This new facility is exclusively dedicated to Royal Caribbean Group operations and will be designed to secure LEED certification, underscoring RCL’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure.

2. Project Scope and Investment

The project entails a total capital outlay of $345 million, funded through a partnership between Miami-Dade County and Royal Caribbean Group. Cruise Terminal G will feature a single-berth design capable of handling Icon-class vessels and other large ships, with a passenger capacity of up to 7,000. Key components include a multi-level parking garage accommodating over 1,200 vehicles, an intermodal transit facility to streamline bus and rail connections, and advanced check-in and baggage handling systems integrating biometric screening technology.

3. Strategic Impact on Royal Caribbean Group

By securing a dedicated, state-of-the-art terminal, Royal Caribbean Group enhances operational efficiency across its three leading cruise brands—Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea. The new terminal’s design-build approach is projected to reduce embarkation and disembarkation times by up to 20%, increasing daily passenger throughput and enabling RCL to schedule an additional 10–15 sailings annually from PortMiami. This capacity expansion aligns with RCL’s growth strategy of optimizing port assets to support future fleet upgrades.

4. Economic and Community Benefits

Cruise Terminal G is expected to generate over 3,500 construction jobs through local small business enterprises and subcontractors, while ongoing operations will support an estimated 500 permanent positions at PortMiami. Miami-Dade County projects that the terminal will contribute an incremental $750 million annually to the local economy through passenger spending, port fees and related tourism services. Completion is slated for late 2027, reinforcing PortMiami’s status as the Cruise Capital of the World and bolstering RCL’s long-term profitability in a key North American market.
