RTX Delivers Javelin LWCLU with 30% Smaller Design and $22M Production Upgrade
RTX•RTX’s Raytheon unit delivered the first next-generation Lightweight Command Launch Units to the U.S. Army, replacing legacy Javelin launchers. Raytheon invested $22 million to modernize its Tucson factory, ramping annual production of launchers that double detection range while reducing size 30% and weight 25%.
1. First LWCLU Delivery
RTX’s Raytheon unit has delivered the inaugural Lightweight Command Launch Units to the U.S. Army, introducing a launcher compatible with all current, past and future Javelin variants and replacing the system’s legacy command launch unit.
2. $22M Factory Modernization
Raytheon invested $22 million to modernize its Tucson, Arizona facility, enhancing production speed and expanding annual capacity in coordination with the U.S. Army to meet growing demand.
3. Performance Enhancements
The new LWCLU doubles target detection and recognition range, shrinks launcher size by 30% and weight by 25%, and provides soldiers with improved day and night engagement capabilities.
4. Javelin Joint Venture Partnership
The Javelin Joint Venture, a collaboration between Raytheon in Tucson and Lockheed Martin in Orlando, continues to develop and produce advanced smart weapons systems for military applications.
