RTX Lands Up-to-Seven-Year Pentagon Framework to Boost Tomahawk, AMRAAM and SM-6 Production
RTX signed five up-to-seven-year U.S. Department of War framework agreements to boost annual Tomahawk production above 1,000 units, AMRAAMs to at least 1,900 and SM-6 missiles above 500. Frameworks will accelerate SM-3 Block IB and IIA output 2-4x, support RTX’s 2026 investment plans and preserve free cash flow.
1. RTX Stock’s Six-Month Rally Reflects Diverse Growth Drivers
RTX shares have climbed 30.2% over the past six months, propelled by a string of high-value defense contracts, expanded commercial aviation partnerships and upward revisions to its 2026 earnings outlook. Analysts note that consensus estimates for 2026 revenue have risen by 4.5% since August, largely on anticipated margin improvements in its Pratt & Whitney and Collins Aerospace units. While strengthening geopolitical tensions and U.S. trade negotiations introduce potential headwinds for exports, RTX’s broad exposure to both military and commercial markets has underpinned its robust share-price performance.
2. Landmark Pentagon Agreements to Quadruple Key Munitions Output
Raytheon, an RTX business, secured five framework deals with the U.S. Department of War designed to boost annual precision-munition production by two to four times existing levels. Under these up-to-seven-year agreements, Tomahawk cruise missiles will exceed 1,000 units per year, AMRAAM air-to-air missiles will increase to at least 1,900 annually, and SM-6 interceptors will surpass 500 units. Production of SM-3 Block IIA interceptors will similarly ramp up, while SM-3 Block IB output will accelerate markedly. These agreements underpin the company’s 2026 capital-expenditure plan, preserving free cash flow through a cost-shared funding model and reinforcing long-term revenue visibility in RTX’s defense segment.
3. Pratt & Whitney Jets Forward with Major Commercial Engine Orders
Pratt & Whitney, RTX’s commercial-aviation arm, announced an order for 44 additional GTF-powered A320neo family aircraft from Vietjet Air, bringing Vietjet’s total GTF commitments to 137 jets. Deliveries will commence in July 2026 under a 12-year EngineWise® maintenance contract covering both A321neo and extended-range A321XLR models. The GTF engine delivers up to 20% fuel savings and a 75% smaller noise footprint versus prior-generation units. This deal both anchors Pratt & Whitney’s 2027 service-revenue backlog and underscores continued demand for its latest-generation engine technology across Asia-Pacific carriers.
4. $1.03 B U.S. Army Radar Contract Strengthens RTX’s Defense Profile
RTX has won a $1.03 billion U.S. Army contract for its next-generation LTAMDS (Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor) radar system. This award covers production and fielding of multiple radar units, software upgrades and sustainment services over a four-year performance period. The contract enhances RTX’s airborne and ground-based missile-defense portfolio, further diversifying its revenue streams beyond munitions and propulsion systems and solidifying its role as a key supplier in the U.S. Department of Defense’s Modernization Priorities.
