Russia says it will send first diesel cargo to US on Thursday
USO•Russia plans to send a 40,000-metric-ton diesel cargo to the United States on Thursday after a deal with President Donald Trump. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said additional shipments would follow.
1. First shipment planned
Russia will dispatch its first tanker carrying diesel to the United States on Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said. The vessel will carry 40,000 metric tons, and paperwork for the supply is nearing completion; Novak did not identify the port.
2. More cargoes discussed
Novak said additional shipments would follow and that Russia would meet US needs to the extent of its capabilities. Trump has said Russia would immediately export 300,000 metric tons, followed by 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons afterward. The United States exports about 1.5 million barrels of diesel per day.
3. Putin cites wider supply
During talks with US envoy Steve Witkoff, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the agreement had helped lower global diesel prices by 5%-6%. Putin also said Russia could supply fertilizers to the US market in large quantities.
