Safe Bulkers increased its board size from nine to eleven directors and appointed Jeffrey Bunzel and Vassilis Hajioannou effective immediately. This expansion aims to enhance oversight and incorporate specialized expertise in investment banking and marine operations.

2. Jeffrey Bunzel’s Background and Roles

Bunzel brings over 30 years of investment banking and capital markets experience, including 14 years as Head of Equity Capital Markets at Deutsche Bank and prior leadership at Credit Suisse. He holds degrees from UC Berkeley and the Fletcher School and meets NYSE independence standards, joining the Corporate Governance, ESG and Audit Committees.

3. Vassilis Hajioannou’s Expertise

Hajioannou offers technical and operational oversight with a bachelor’s in marine engineering and a master’s in shipping and logistics from Newcastle University. His background in operations and chartering departments is expected to bolster Safe Bulkers’ vessel deployment and logistics management.
