Salesforce to buy defense tech firm Rune in military business push
CRM•Salesforce said it would buy Rune Technologies to expand Missionforce, its business serving the U.S. military and government agencies. Financial terms were not disclosed, and the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal 2027.
1. Expanding Missionforce
Salesforce said it would buy Rune Technologies, whose AI-powered software helps troops forecast supply needs, plan resource use and decide where to send resources, including in areas with little or no network connection. The U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps already use Rune’s technology, Salesforce said.
2. Deal details
Salesforce did not disclose the financial terms. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of Salesforce’s fiscal year 2027. Salesforce said Missionforce, launched a year ago, was growing 80% year over year and had customers in all six branches of the U.S. military.
3. Other AI acquisitions
Salesforce has been broadening its AI offerings through acquisitions as investors worry that rapid AI adoption could erode demand for traditional software. It agreed to buy AI marketing software maker Braze for about $5.66 billion last week, signed a $3.6 billion deal for AI agent platform Fin earlier this year and an $8 billion deal for Informatica last year.
