Samsung Averts 18-Day Strike with $416,000 Bonuses, Ensuring Chip Supply for Nvidia
Samsung’s union deal grants memory chip workers up to 626 million won ($416,000) in bonuses and suspends an 18-day strike after shares surged 8.5% to a record high. The agreement secures uninterrupted chip output critical for Nvidia’s AI chip assembly.
1. Samsung Union Deal Details
Under the agreement, all memory chip unit employees will receive 50% of their annual salary as a cash bonus and participate in a special stock-based bonus pool equal to 10.5% of operating profit. A typical worker with an 80 million won base salary stands to earn approximately 626 million won ($416,000) in total bonuses, while Samsung’s shares rallied 8.5% to a record high.
2. Impact on Nvidia Supply
By averting an 18-day strike, Samsung has secured continuous memory chip production, a key input for Nvidia’s advanced AI processors. The stabilized output reduces supply chain risk for Nvidia’s AI chip assembly and curbs the potential for production delays.
