Samsung Electronics posted record first-quarter operating profit of 57.2 trillion won, up eightfold year-on-year, as AI accelerator supply crunch drove memory chip prices higher. Google will begin selling its latest TPU 8t and 8i chips to select customers’ data centers, directly challenging Nvidia’s GPU dominance.

1. Samsung Q1 Record Profit

Samsung Electronics reported 57.2 trillion won in first-quarter operating profit, up from 6.69 trillion won a year earlier, with its chip division profit hitting a record 53.7 trillion won and accounting for 94% of total profit on surging memory prices due to AI accelerator demand.

2. Google to Sell TPUs to Customers

Google announced plans to sell its new TPU 8t and TPU 8i chips for installation in select customer data centers, following multi-gigawatt agreements with Anthropic and Meta, in a direct challenge to Nvidia’s AI processor market share.

3. Nvidia's Upcoming Q1 Conference Call

Nvidia has scheduled its fiscal Q1 2027 earnings conference call for May 20 at 2 p.m. PT, with written commentary from CFO Colette Kress to be released at 1:20 p.m. PT, as investors await details on AI-driven GPU sales and revenue growth.
