Santacruz Silver Posts 27.6% Hazardous Waste Cut, 696 kWh/Tonne Energy Use
SCZM•Santacruz Silver releases its first GRI-aligned 2025 sustainability report for Mexican subsidiary Zilar Mendi, covering January-December 2025 and outlining a corporate ESG strategy. The report details environmental metrics including 696.31 kWh per tonne of concentrate (up 2 kWh) and a 27.62% reduction in non-mineral hazardous waste.

Santacruz Silver has published its first sustainability report for its Mexican subsidiary Zilar Mendi, aligned with 2021 GRI Standards and covering operations from January 1 to December 31, 2025. This milestone reflects a renewed corporate strategy emphasizing safety, environmental performance, operational efficiency and stakeholder engagement across its Mexican operations.
2. Environmental Performance
During 2025, Zilar Mendi recorded electricity consumption of 696.31 kWh per tonne of concentrate, a 2 kWh increase from 2024, while non-mineral hazardous waste generation declined by 27.62% through stricter process controls and waste minimization. The operation also reported a 1.17% rise in flotation tailings managed under enhanced handling practices, alongside continuous water, air, soil and waste monitoring.
3. Social and Safety Highlights
The report highlights the implementation of the Field Safety Leadership Activities (F.S.L.A.) framework across 780 employees, resulting in zero fatalities, 657 lost days and 2,255,624 hours worked in 2025. Employee well-being initiatives included 1,331 medical and psychological consultations, with no reported violations of Indigenous Peoples’ rights.
4. Governance and 2026 Priorities
Zilar Mendi strengthened internal controls and linked executive performance evaluations to ESG objectives, ethics and human rights policies. Looking ahead, the company plans to establish a Sustainability Committee and expand materiality assessments and stakeholder engagement to enhance ESG oversight in 2026.
