SAP clients increasingly worry about AI models' origin, CFO says
SAP•SAP finance chief Dominik Asam said customers are increasingly asking where the AI in their business software was built, as export controls and sovereignty concerns shape technology decisions.
1. Clients question AI origins
Customers are increasingly asking where the AI inside their business software was built, SAP finance chief Dominik Asam said. He said clients are concerned about whether data used by a model could be channelled to places where it should not end up, and that companies have precise technology-governance requirements when using several AI models.
2. Flexible model portfolio
SAP embeds more than 70 models from various providers in software used for accounting and supply chains, choosing to remain agnostic rather than build its own models. Asam said customer requirements vary, and that SAP prefers access to models from every region, including Europe and Canada. He also said the company uses frontier AI models to attack and test its products, but declined to comment on screening findings.
