Saudi Aramco headquarters suffered extensive damage in Houthi attack, sources say
USO•Saudi Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran suffered extensive damage and a fire spread across several floors in a Tuesday attack, three people with direct knowledge said. Operations continued normally, though some employees were asked to work from home and some functions shifted to global offices.
1. Damage at headquarters
The attack caused a fire that spread across several floors of the office complex in eastern Saudi Arabia. Two sources said it began on the ninth floor of the south wing and spread between the sixth and 10th floors; another said the top three floors were severely damaged, with part of the ceiling caved in and windows and doors blown out.
2. Operations continue
Operations at the complex continued normally, though some employees were asked to work from home and some functions shifted to global offices. One source said the fire was still burning into the early hours of Wednesday.
3. Facility role
The complex hosts an operations centre that helps Saudi Aramco oversee onshore and offshore oil rigs, refineries, export terminals and thousands of kilometres of pipeline. Saudi Arabia’s energy ministry said the attack caused a limited fire.
