Saudi-led coalition says Houthis attempted to attack dozens of Saudi facilities
USO•The Saudi-led coalition said the Houthis attempted to attack dozens of Saudi airports, ports and oil facilities. A coalition spokesperson said attacks on Riyadh and Abha airports killed 20 people and wounded 361.
1. Attacks on airports
Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki said the Houthis launched 20 attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh this month, killing 17 people and wounding 333. He said attacks on Abha airport killed three people and wounded 28.
2. Weapons and warnings
Maliki said the Houthis had acquired ballistic missiles, drones and explosive-laden fast boats with help from “regional actors.” He said the coalition had destroyed 127 weapons storage facilities and launch platforms in Yemen. The Houthi military spokesperson said Saudi airspace and airports were unsafe, while excluding airspace over Mecca and Medina.
3. Conflict background
The Houthis seized Sanaa in 2014, prompting a Saudi-led military intervention the following year. A UN-brokered truce in 2022 largely halted major fighting, but efforts to reach a lasting political settlement have stalled as regional tensions have intensified.
