Scholastic Backs 100 Dav Pilkey Libraries, Delivering Thousands of Books Nationwide
Scholastic is collaborating with Little Free Library and Dav Pilkey to install 100 custom-designed kiosks in U.S. book deserts from April through July featuring Pilkey’s characters. Each kiosk will carry curated titles, including the new Captain Underpants: The First Epic Manga, delivering thousands of books to underserved communities.
1. April Through July Rollout
From April 7 to July, 100 Little Free Libraries will be installed in schools, public libraries, and communities classified as book deserts across the U.S., expanding the previous 50-state Power Up with Reading program to underserved areas.
2. Custom Dav Pilkey Designs
The libraries feature bold red exteriors and graphics of Dog Man and Captain Underpants, drawing on Pilkey’s signature art to create engaging, recognizable kiosks that attract children’s attention and invite exploration.
3. Curated Book Selections and New Manga
Each location will be stocked with a curated mix of children’s titles, including thousands of books donated by Dav Pilkey and Scholastic, and copies of Captain Underpants: The First Epic Manga to enrich summer reading.
4. Scholastic’s Role and Impact
Scholastic provides logistical support and supplies many of the book titles, leveraging its distribution network to amplify literacy efforts and reinforce its leadership in children’s publishing and book equity initiatives.
