2. Community Campaigns and Literacy Grants
The Fund allocated $2.3 million to local community campaigns through Scripps-owned stations and networks, securing over 6,700 donations across 41 fundraisers and supporting 91 charities. It also invested $1.7 million to deliver 280,000 books to students at 93 Title I partner schools.
3. Journalism Education by the Fund
The Fund dedicated $1.5 million to advance journalism education, awarding $140,000 across 12 categories at the 72nd Scripps Howard Journalism Awards, funding 25 paid internships, and providing grants to four community colleges for hands-on newsroom training.
4. Foundation’s Support for Journalism Education
The Scripps Howard Foundation invested $5.4 million in journalism education, including $2.7 million in three-year grants to Howard Centers at University of Maryland and Arizona State University, $410,000 for Roy W. Howard fellows, and launching a community journalism center at University of Southern Mississippi.
