Sempra Infrastructure Ships First LNG Cargo from 3.25 Mtpa Mexican Pacific Coast Facility
SRE•Sempra Infrastructure has successfully loaded and shipped the first liquefied natural gas cargo from its 3.25 Mtpa ECA LNG Phase 1 facility in Ensenada, Mexico, ahead of its expected summer 2026 commercial start. The plant’s Pacific Coast location offers the shortest shipping route to Asia under long-term sale and purchase agreements with TotalEnergies and Mitsui.
1. First LNG Shipment Achieved
The ECA LNG Phase 1 facility in Ensenada has loaded and dispatched its inaugural LNG cargo, marking a key milestone as it transitions from construction to operational readiness. This successful shipment validates project execution and sets the stage for recurring export volumes.
2. Strategic Pacific Coast Advantage
Located on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, the facility provides a direct shipping route to Asia and Pacific Basin markets, cutting transit times and freight costs. This geography enhances competitiveness of U.S. natural gas by offering customers quicker access and greater reliability.
3. Facility Capacity and Partnerships
The Phase 1 project features a single liquefaction train with a nameplate capacity of 3.25 million tonnes per annum, underpinned by long-term sale and purchase agreements with TotalEnergies and Mitsui. TotalEnergies has already contributed its first cargoes to support the ramp-up.
4. Path to Commercial Operations
Substantial completion is targeted for summer 2026, at which point commercial operations and revenue generation under existing contracts will commence. Meanwhile, planning and development continue on a significantly larger second phase at the same site.
