Semtech’s LoRa Powers Amazon Sidewalk Expansion into Canada and Mexico

SMTCSMTC

Semtech’s LoRa radio modulation will power Amazon Sidewalk’s 2026 global rollout, starting this month in Canada and Mexico and expanding to additional regions later this year. LoRaWAN connectivity underpins over 125 million devices and targets an IoT market growing from $10.7 billion in 2025 to $44.8 billion by 2030 (33.1% CAGR).

1. Amazon Sidewalk Global Expansion

Amazon Sidewalk currently covers approximately 95% of the U.S. population and will leverage LoRa as its core radio modulation for a 2026 international rollout. The expansion begins in Canada and Mexico this month and will extend to additional regions later this year, transforming Sidewalk into a true wide-area network.

2. LoRa Technical Advantages

LoRa’s chirp spread spectrum modulation delivers long-range connectivity and ultra-low power consumption with multi-spreading factor support for higher device densities. Unique features include combined Wi-Fi, BLE and GPS location services and hub-less deployments that reduce infrastructure needs while extending network reach.

3. Market Reach and Growth Projections

Semtech’s LoRaWAN ecosystem supports over 125 million deployed devices across more than 170 mobile network operators. Industry projections forecast LoRaWAN IoT market growth from $10.7 billion in 2025 to $44.8 billion by 2030, representing a 33.1% CAGR.
