Shell evacuating non-essential workers from US Gulf offshore assets
SHEL•Shell began evacuating non-essential workers from six offshore production assets in the US-regulated northern Gulf of Mexico as a developing storm was forecast to become a hurricane by Thursday.
1. Worker evacuations begin
Shell began evacuating non-essential workers from its Stones, Mars, Olympus, Ursa, Vito and Appomattox offshore production assets on Tuesday, the company said in an online statement.
2. Storm forecast
The US National Hurricane Center forecast the developing storm off Mexico’s coast to become a hurricane by Thursday and cross offshore production areas before making landfall in Louisiana or Mississippi.
