Silicon Labs Powers Philips Hue Bulbs with Simultaneous Matter and Zigbee
SLAB•Silicon Labs will enable Philips Hue smart bulbs to support both Matter over Thread and Zigbee simultaneously using its MG26 and SiMG301 wireless SoCs. The feature will launch later this year with a firmware update that preserves premium Hue lighting experiences while delivering cross-platform interoperability.
1. Collaboration Overview
Silicon Labs and Signify have partnered to integrate Silicon Labs' MG26 and SiMG301 wireless SoCs into select Philips Hue smart bulbs, enabling concurrent support for Zigbee and Matter over Thread on a single device. This collaboration aims to deliver both interoperability and advanced Hue features without hardware trade-offs.
2. Technical Innovation
Silicon Labs' concurrent multiprotocol (CMP) technology allows Zigbee and Matter protocols to operate simultaneously on one wireless device, ensuring seamless cross-platform connectivity. CMP bridges existing Hue ecosystems with emerging Matter platforms while preserving dynamic scenes, entertainment synchronization, and automation capabilities unique to Hue.
3. Availability and Rollout
Select Philips Hue bulbs leveraging the new SoCs are available now or launching across Hue product lines, requiring protocol choice at commissioning. A firmware update scheduled later this year will enable true concurrent operation, simplifying setup and expanding cross-ecosystem compatibility for consumers.
