Sinopec, partners launch low-carbon energy cooperation initiative to advance CCUS collaboration

Sinopec highlighted existing assets, including a 100-kilometer dense-phase CO2 pipeline and a 1 million-metric-ton integrated CCUS project.
The company is studying a 10 million-metric-ton open-access CCUS cluster with Shell, BASF and China Baowu, and is preparing a 1 million-metric-ton Shengli project.
Sinopec launches low-carbon energy cooperation initiative
Sinopec launched an Initiative for Cooperation on Low-Carbon Energy Development to deepen global collaboration on carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS).
The move was announced at the 2026 International CCUS Technology Conference in Astana, with support from Kazakhstan’s energy ministry, ICTO and Nazarbayev University.
The plan targets closer alignment on CCUS technologies, standards and professional exchanges to accelerate deployment.
