SK Telecom Joins Nvidia-Led AI-RAN Coalition for 6G Development
SK Telecom joined Nvidia and telecom leaders to develop an AI-native 6G blueprint with open, secure network designs built on AI-RAN. This partnership positions SK Telecom to leverage future software-driven 6G architecture, potentially boosting its network infrastructure offerings and long-term revenue growth.
1. Coalition Launch and SK Telecom Participation
On March 2, SK Telecom joined a global coalition led by Nvidia and other major telecom operators—Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile US, SoftBank, Cisco—to develop a 6G network blueprint using open, AI-native designs. SK Telecom will collaborate on research, open-source contributions, and joint R&D to shape future wireless systems.
2. AI-RAN Technology Overview
The initiative focuses on AI-RAN (artificial intelligence–radio access network) architecture that embeds intelligence and software-driven controls, enabling networks to evolve through updates and meet heightened security and trust requirements. SK Telecom’s existing experience in AI and network virtualization positions it to contribute expertise in software-defined radio and edge intelligence.
3. Strategic Implications for SK Telecom
Participation in this 6G effort could accelerate SK Telecom’s roadmap for next-generation network services, offering potential new revenue streams in infrastructure and managed services. Early involvement may strengthen the company's competitive standing in global telecom markets and support long-term growth prospects as 6G moves toward commercialization.
