Sky Quarry is launching crude drilling in Nevada's Railroad Valley to exploit an estimated 1.4 billion barrels of recoverable oil and refine output at its Foreland Refinery, Nevada's only operating plant. It will support regional producers in adding wells to boost in-state refining utilization above historical levels.
Sky Quarry is initiating a drilling and production program in Railroad Valley, Nevada’s primary oil-producing region. The company is assisting regional producers in bringing additional wells online, targeting wells with historical peak outputs of roughly 5,000 barrels per day to develop long-lived reserves.
A 2025 assessment estimates Nevada holds about 1.4 billion barrels of undiscovered, technically recoverable oil, ranking third nationally. Sky Quarry aims to tap this resource to reduce the state’s reliance on imported fuels, currently over 90% of transportation demand.
The Foreland Refinery, Nevada’s sole operating refinery, offers a direct in-state outlet for local crude, leveraging limited pipeline access to external markets. As regional production grows, Sky Quarry plans to raise utilization above historical levels to convert more local barrels into diesel, VGO, naphtha and asphalt.
