Slovakia to approve Tesla's self-driving tech
TSLA•Slovakia expects to approve Tesla's Full Self-Driving system within days, which would make it the ninth European Union country to authorize the driver-assistance technology. The transport ministry plans to send a recognition letter to the Netherlands, whose regulator approved the system earlier this year.
1. Approval expected soon
Transport Minister Jozef Raz said Slovakia expects to approve Tesla's Full Self-Driving system within days. He said the ministry would send a recognition letter to the Netherlands, whose RDW regulator approved the system earlier this year and serves as Tesla's lead authority for the approval process in Europe. Once the letter is delivered, the system will be available for use in Slovakia, Raz said, while emphasizing that drivers remain responsible for the car.
2. More European approvals
Approval would make Slovakia the ninth European Union country to authorize the technology. The Czech Republic, Slovenia and Denmark are among the countries that have approved its use this year, and an EU-wide vote could come as soon as December. Tesla has reportedly mounted a pressure campaign to win approval in Europe, portraying regulators as obstacles to technology it says improves road safety.
