Small business sales rise 2.3% in October, strongest gain since July 2025, Fiserv says
FISV•Fiserv’s October 2026 Small Business Index showed sales up 2.3% year over year, the strongest gain since July 2025, reaching 146; sales rose 0.3% month over month.
1. Sales and spending
The index showed average spending per transaction up 3.5% year over year, while foot traffic fell 1.2%, its smallest decline since February 2026.
2. Sector results
Gasoline station sales surged 23.2% year over year, driven by a 22.3% increase in average transaction value. Retail sales rose 1.9%, while restaurant sales slipped 0.5% as transactions remained under pressure.
