Rupee edges higher
The Indian rupee INR=IN rose 0.1% versus the U.S. dollar to 95.33, wedged between anxiety over the Middle East conflict and the impact of persistent central bank intervention that have helped steady the currency.
Stocks close lower
The benchmark BSE Sensex .BSESN was down 0.24% at 77,966.35 and the broader NSE Nifty 50 index .NSEI declined 0.15% to 24,435.95, as rising oil prices and caution ahead of domestic and U.S. inflation data weighed on sentiment, with declines in most Tata Group stocks following the chairman's decision to step down adding to the pressure.
Government bonds and swaps
The benchmark 10-year bond IN069436G=CC was quoted at 101.13 rupees, with the yield nearly flat at 6.7776%, as oil inched lower, while traders awaited the latest U.S. inflation data due later in the day, after the local price data triggered little movement.
The one-year overnight index swap rate INR1YMIBROIS=CC was down 2 basis points at 5.77%, while the five-year swap rate fell 2 bps to 6.2725%.
