Solstice to Boost UF6 Output Over 10 Kilotonnes, Backlog Tops $2 Billion
Solstice Advanced Materials’ Metropolis Works facility will produce over 10 kilotonnes of uranium hexafluoride in 2026, a 20% rise from its planned 2024 output, to meet a backlog exceeding $2 billion. The U.S.-only UF6 converter is pursuing debottlenecking and new capacity investments supported by DOE policy goals.
1. Production Expansion and Output Figures
Solstice’s Metropolis Works facility is projected to produce over 10 kilotonnes of uranium hexafluoride in 2026, representing a 20% increase over its planned 2024 capacity. As the only UF6 conversion plant in the U.S., Metropolis Works is critical to domestic nuclear fuel supply and leverages proprietary conversion technology to ensure efficient throughput.
2. Backlog and Customer Demand
The company’s order backlog has surpassed $2 billion, driven primarily by long-term contracts with domestic utility providers seeking stable UF6 supply. Strong customer demand follows the 2023 restart of the facility and reflects growing nuclear energy commitments tied to carbon-free baseload generation.
3. Future Capacity Investments and Policy Support
Solstice is exploring further debottlenecking initiatives and has engaged a leading engineering, procurement and construction firm for new capacity analyses. These efforts align with U.S. policy goals to quadruple nuclear energy capacity by 2050 and are backed by exploratory partnerships with the Department of Energy and ongoing long-term supply discussions.
