Sony will raise PS5 console prices from April 2, boosting the PS5 Pro by $150 to $899.99 and increasing the disc and digital editions by $100 to $649.99 and $599.99. The PlayStation Portal remote player will cost $249.99 in the U.S., with similar hikes in Europe, U.K. and Japan.

1. Price Hike Details

Sony will implement the new pricing on April 2, raising the PS5 Pro by $150 to $899.99 and increasing both the standard disc and digital editions by $100 to $649.99 and $599.99 respectively in the U.S.

2. Global Market Adjustments

U.K. customers will pay £90 more per PS5 model, European disc and digital editions will reach €649.99 and €599.99 respectively and the PS5 Pro will rise to €899.99, while the PlayStation Portal will adjust to £219.99, €249.99 and ¥39,980 in Japan.

3. Cost Drivers

Rising memory chip costs are the primary driver as chipmakers prioritize AI data center orders, and previously held component price protections have expired, squeezing Sony’s hardware margins.

4. Strategic Response

Sony plans to protect slim console margins by drawing more value from its installed PS5 base and expanding revenue from its software and network services businesses.
