South Korea asks to postpone parliament briefing on US investment plans

South Korea's government has asked to postpone a planned briefing on Thursday to a parliamentary committee about Seoul's U.S. investment plans, the industry ministry said on Wednesday.

The ministry declined further comment.

The briefing was seen as one of the final steps before Seoul and Washington set terms for a huge South Korean investment pledge in the U.S., according to lawmakers on Tuesday.

U.S. President Donald Trump and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung reached a trade deal last October under which South Korea committed $350 billion of investments to U.S. manufacturing in return for Washington capping tariffs on Korean imports at 15%.

With $150 billion out of the $350 billion earmarked for shipbuilding, Seoul and Washington have been working to finalise terms of projects under consideration for the remaining $200 billion.
