S&P Global projects U.S. LNG exports to rank second among net export industries
S&P Global Energy projected U.S. LNG exports will become the No. 2 net export industry by 2031, behind civilian aircraft and parts.
Feedgas demand for LNG exports is forecast to double to 36 bcf/d within five years, implying the U.S. exceeds one-third of global LNG supply.
Economic impact through 2040 is seen at 555,000 jobs annually, $1.4 trillion GDP contribution, $2.9 trillion business revenues, and $206 billion in taxes.
Domestic price impact was flagged as limited, with household end-user gas costs up 1.6% on average from 2026-2031.
An “Extended Pause” scenario is projected to lift Europe and Asia LNG prices 50% by 2031, shifting up to $76 billion per year to non-U.S. suppliers.
