VSAT•Agreement to co-found Equatys
Space42 and Viasat signed a binding agreement to co-found Equatys, a shared space and ground infrastructure platform for direct-to-device connectivity.
The companies said initial combined equity commitments could total up to USD 1 billion, including USD 400 million each at formation. Space42 may add USD 200 million in a later round open to third-party investors, lifting the founders’ total to up to USD 1 billion.
Role of Viasat and platform plans
Viasat is expected to be appointed prime technology contractor once Equatys is formed, subject to customary closing conditions.
Equatys targets a scalable architecture designed to expand to 2,800 satellites, aiming to serve mobile operators using MSS or SCS spectrum.
