SpaceX is stuck in a difficult adolescence
SPCX•SpaceX reported third-quarter revenue of $14.6 billion, including $7.6 billion from its Super Intelligence unit, while net income reached $4.4 billion. The unit’s fast growth helped make it SpaceX’s largest business, but chip rental prices may fall as shortages ease.
1. AI rental business surges
SpaceX said its Super Intelligence AI and server-rental unit generated $7.6 billion in third-quarter revenue, up from $813 million a year earlier, making it the company’s largest business line. Total revenue was $14.6 billion, compared with $5.6 billion a year earlier, and net income was $4.4 billion, versus a $1.1 billion loss.
2. Rental prices may decline
SpaceX’s server-rental business benefited from chip shortages and demand from customers including Anthropic. MoffettNathanson analysts estimated Nvidia GB300 chip rental prices at about $10 an hour for the next several months, falling to $4 further out. SpaceX said it could increase capacity perhaps five-fold by the end of next year; capital expenditures nearly tripled to $19.6 billion, including $16.4 billion for Super Intelligence.
3. Rockets grow more slowly
Revenue from SpaceX’s rocket business grew 6% year over year. The company is also building a $17 billion semiconductor plant with Tesla, while its satellite broadband business could take on wireless networks, the article said.
