Sphere Entertainment to Build $1.7B, 20,000-Seat Yas Island Venue by 2029
Sphere Entertainment and Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism will invest USD 1.7 billion to build Sphere Abu Dhabi on Yas Island, scheduled for completion by end-2029. The 20,000-seat venue will host immersive productions, concert residencies, sporting spectacles and showcase Emirati culture via a 360° LED Exosphere.
1. Project Investment and Timeline
Sphere Abu Dhabi will be constructed on a plot between Yas Mall and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi with a USD 1.7 billion budget for the build phase. Development kicks off immediately with full completion targeted by the end of 2029.
2. Venue Features and Programming
The venue will accommodate up to 20,000 attendees and deliver proprietary immersive productions, multi-sensory storytelling experiences, concert residencies, sporting spectacles and brand events. A 360° exterior LED Exosphere will display works by Emirati artists and celebrate local culture.
3. Strategic Impact and Infrastructure
Located a short drive from Zayed International Airport, Sphere Abu Dhabi will integrate with Yas Island’s transport upgrades and existing attractions. It is expected to boost tourism, create thousands of jobs and serve as a global events backdrop during the annual Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
