Spotify aims to launch the service in the first quarter of 2027, potentially unveiling it around the Grammy Awards in February, the Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the plans. The company is considering an additional monthly charge of $4 to $5 for subscribers.
The service would let paying subscribers use AI to create versions of songs, such as turning a folk song into a dance track or making one artist appear to cover another's music. Spotify has struck licensing deals with Universal Music Group, Merlin and Believe, and is still negotiating with Sony Music and Warner Music, the report said. Royalties from fan-created remixes would go to original artists, and plays would count toward the original songs in Spotify's charts.
