SQM and Wesfarmers reached a final investment decision to expand the Mt Holland lithium project through their Covalent Lithium joint venture.
- The expansion adds a second concentrator and an integrated ore-sorting facility, doubling spodumene concentrate capacity to 760,000 tonnes a year from 380,000.
- First-half 2030 start-up is targeted, with construction expected to begin in the second half of 2027.
- SQM’s share of capital spending is estimated at US$450 million to US$500 million.
- The extra output could supply a potential expansion at the Kwinana refinery or be sold as spodumene concentrate.
