Stablecoin payments reduce idle capital for businesses, Theta Capital says
MA•Theta Capital says stablecoin initiatives from Mastercard, Visa and Stripe aim to reduce payment delays, currency conversion costs and idle capital. The initiatives include Mastercard’s Global Money Platform through BVNK, Visa’s commercial-use USDC funding for cross-border payouts through Inyo Global, and Stripe’s multicurrency card work with Plasma.
1. Payment initiatives
Mastercard launched its Global Money Platform through BVNK, combining traditional currencies with stablecoins to reduce prefunded cash requirements for cross-border payments. Visa moved USDC funding for cross-border payouts into commercial use through Inyo Global, while Stripe partnered with stablecoin-focused blockchain Plasma to develop multicurrency cards intended to reduce unnecessary currency conversions.
2. Cash buffers
The brief says stablecoin settlement outside banking hours can reduce card programs’ cash buffers, freeing capital and improving margins.
