Starbucks loses bid to dismiss labor union's trademark case
SBUX•A federal judge in Pennsylvania denied Starbucks' request to dismiss Workers United's lawsuit over the union's use of the name “Starbucks Workers United” and a version of Starbucks' logo.
1. Case moves forward
U.S. District Judge Michael Baylson rejected Starbucks' argument that a 2024 memorandum of understanding meant there was no live controversy when Workers United sued in April. The union seeks a ruling that its name and logo use do not infringe Starbucks' trademarks; the parties dismissed earlier cases in 2025 before refiling lawsuits in 2026.
