Starbucks plans to close about 1% of North America coffeehouses under “Back to Starbucks” strategy

Starbucks plans to close about 1% of its more than 18,000 North America coffeehouses as part of its “Back to Starbucks” reorganization. The company said closures target locations that fall short on customer experience or financial performance, and most are expected to be completed by fiscal 2026 year-end. Restructuring charges are estimated at about $300 million, including $200 million in cash costs and $100 million in non-cash charges tied to asset impairments and disposals at company-operated stores.
Starbucks lowered its fiscal 2026 net new global openings outlook to about 440 from 600 to 650, reflecting about 250 North America closures.
