STT•State Street’s 2026 study found 51% of institutions expect digital assets to be mainstream within five years. Average allocations are about 11%, and respondents project they will reach 17% in three years.
1. Institutional adoption outlook
The study found that 35% of institutions are already managing or distributing digital assets, while 28% said they have infrastructure in place for demand. Respondents cited regulatory experience as the leading provider-selection factor at 69%, followed by cybersecurity at 54% and financial strength at 47%; tokenization was the top strategic priority.
