Stellantis bets on small affordable EVs for European comeback
STLA•Stellantis unveiled concepts and new models at the Paris Motor Show, including a Citroen 2CV concept previewing a European-made low-cost EV expected in 2028. The vehicle is intended for Europe’s new e-car category, where cars are priced around €15,000.
1. Paris Motor Show lineup
Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa unveiled six of the nine concepts the automaker is bringing to the Paris Motor Show, alongside production models and affordable EVs aimed at competing with low-cost Chinese rivals. International premieres include the DS7, Fiat Grizzly, Lancia Gamma, Opel Corsa GSE and two models from Chinese partner Leapmotor.
2. Affordable EV plans
The centerpiece is Citroen’s revival of the 2CV, a retro-styled concept previewing a European-made low-cost EV expected in 2028. It is intended as the first example of Europe’s new “e-car” category, with vehicles priced around €15,000.
3. Turnaround under scrutiny
The show marks a prominent return to a major European auto event as Stellantis seeks to convince investors that CEO Filosa’s turnaround plan is working after two years of declining market share and profitability in North America and Europe. The plan, unveiled in May, includes dozens of new models, cost cuts and deeper cooperation with Chinese partners. Investors remain unconvinced, and analysts have questioned whether recent sales gains reflect consumer demand or higher dealer deliveries to rebuild inventories.
