Stellantis Extends Turin Fiat 500 Plant Shutdown, Cuts Hybrid Output to 400 Cars Daily
STLA•Stellantis extended its Mirafiori plant shutdown in Turin by one week to July 27-31, citing engine, bumper and sensor shortages that cut daily Fiat 500 hybrid output to 400 units from 430. The halt precedes a planned three-week August stoppage and raises concerns over weaker-than-expected market demand.
1. Mirafiori Plant Shutdown Extended
Stellantis notified unions it will halt operations at its Mirafiori plant in Turin from July 27 to July 31, extending the summer shutdown. The stoppage, ahead of a planned three-week August closure, stems from shortages of engines, bumpers and sensors that have disrupted hybrid Fiat 500 output.
2. Impact on Fiat 500 Production and Demand
Daily assembly of the hybrid Fiat 500 has been cut from 430 units to 400, raising concerns about weaker-than-expected market demand. Stellantis had targeted production of about 100,000 hybrid and electric Fiat 500 models in 2026 but has not reaffirmed that goal.
3. China-Made Jeep SUV Plan
Stellantis will partner with Dongfeng Motor Corp. to produce a new Jeep SUV at Dongfeng’s Wuhan facility for a European launch by 2030. This venture will expand Jeep’s regional lineup from two to six models, including an all-electric Recon debut next year.
