Stellantis Faces Second-Highest U.S. Recall Volume, Unveils €5 Billion Italy R&D Plan
STLA•Stellantis logged the second-highest U.S. vehicle recall volume in 2025, surpassing Ford in recall cost per unit even though Ford’s volume was higher. CEO Antonio Filosa announced a €5 billion R&D investment in Italy through 2030 to support a European turnaround and rebuild investor confidence.
1. U.S. Recall Volume and Costs
Stellantis recorded the second-highest vehicle recall volume in the U.S. last year, trailing only Ford in unit count but exceeding Ford in total recall costs per vehicle. The elevated expense highlights quality-control gaps that may strain profitability and brand reputation across key markets.
2. €5 Billion Italy R&D Investment for Turnaround
CEO Antonio Filosa pledged a €5 billion research and development investment in Italy through 2030 as the cornerstone of a broader European turnaround strategy. The funding will target electric vehicle platforms, software integration and advanced manufacturing to restore confidence among Italian stakeholders and global investors.
