STMicroelectronics introduced the Stellar P3E, marking the first automotive microcontroller to integrate a dedicated neural network accelerator for on-edge AI processing. This device is designed to power future software-defined vehicles by consolidating multiple ECU functions into a single chip, reducing system cost, weight, and complexity while maintaining automotive safety standards.

The Stellar P3E pairs dual 500 MHz Arm Cortex-R52+ cores with the ST Neural-ART Accelerator™, achieving inference in microseconds and up to 30× greater efficiency than traditional MCU cores. It employs split-lock architecture to balance functional safety with peak performance, and its xMemory PCM offers double the density of embedded flash for dynamic software expansion without hardware redesign.

3. Production Timeline and Impact

Volume production of the Stellar P3E is planned for Q4 2026, targeting hybrid/EV powertrains, body zonal architectures, and predictive maintenance systems. By enabling always-on AI for smart sensing and virtual sensors, the MCU empowers OEMs to deploy advanced features and software updates in-vehicle or in the factory, streamlining development and reducing integration overhead.
