STMicroelectronics Launches 2.3K-Zone dToF LiDAR Module with 100fps and 9m Range
STM•STMicroelectronics unveiled the VL53L9, its first all-in-one direct Time-of-Flight 3D LiDAR module with 2.3K zones resolution, 100 fps frame rate and 5 cm–9 m range. The compact 12.8 mm × 6.1 mm × 4.6 mm module targets robotics, industrial automation, AR/VR, smart buildings and healthcare and ships July 2026.
1. Product Launch and Specifications
STMicroelectronics introduced the VL53L9 direct Time-of-Flight 3D LiDAR module, offering 2,268 resolution zones (54×42), a 54°×42° field of view, 100 frames per second and sensing from 5 cm to 9 m with up to 1% accuracy, all in a 12.8 mm × 6.1 mm × 4.6 mm package.
2. Edge AI and Integration Advantages
The VL53L9 integrates on-chip dToF processing, a power management IC and dual-scan flood illumination, delivering complementary 2D infrared and 3D depth data via MIPI or I3C interfaces. Its calibration-free design and low compute requirements simplify integration on small microcontrollers and reduce system complexity.
3. Market Applications and Strategic Impact
The module is engineered for robotics navigation and obstacle avoidance, industrial automation volume measurement, smart building presence detection, AR/VR gesture tracking and healthcare monitoring. This broad applicability positions STMicroelectronics to capture growth in edge AI and high-resolution sensing markets.
4. Production Timeline
VL53L9 enters mass production in early July 2026, with global samples and volume shipments available. This launch aligns with STMicroelectronics’ strategy to expand its integrated sensing solutions portfolio and support diverse industry customers.
