STOXX heading for positive week
SPY•The STOXX 600 rose 0.6% on Friday and was heading for a 0.8% weekly gain, its first positive week in four. European shares gained as oil prices slipped on hopes for progress toward a U.S.-Iran peace deal.
1. European shares rise
Major European stock indexes rose on Friday as oil prices retreated on hopes for progress between the United States and Iran to end the war in the Middle East. Negotiators are exploring a phased path out of the war that would involve reopening the Strait of Hormuz, sources close to the talks said.
2. Sector and stock moves
Rising stocks outnumbered decliners by about 2.5 to 1. Indexes in Frankfurt, Paris and London gained 0.3% to 0.6%; energy shares lagged, while banks and miners were the top gainers. HelloFresh was the biggest faller after cutting its full-year outlook.
