STOXX moving on up
SPY•European stocks start the week higher
Europe's STOXX 600 .STOXX is up 0.7%, starting the week on a positive note after recording its third weekly fall in a row last week.
Major European indices rose across the board, with the DAX .GDAXI up 0.8%, the CAC .FCHI rising 0.6% and the FTSE .FTSE adding 0.4%.
Tech leads gains while oil and gas slips
A fresh round of tech and AI enthusiasm sent an index of European tech shares .SX8P 1.7% higher to lead sectoral gains. Semiconductor companies got a boost with Soitec SOIT.PA rising 4.1% and Aixtron AiXGn.DE up 3.1%.
Oil and gas stocks .SXEP meanwhile slipped, down 0.6%, as energy prices pulled back. Brent crude futures LCOc1 were last down 2.1% to $101.65 a barrel on renewed hopes for diplomatic progress in the Iran war and supply optimism.
In single stock moves, Lotus Bakeries LOTB.BR rose 5.4% after Jefferies initiated coverage with a buy rating, and Kuehne+Nagel KNIN.S was up 5% after the Swiss logistics group announced a long-term strategic collaboration with Amazon.
