STOXX set for monthly fall, but a steady quarter
VGK•The STOXX 600 was up 0.6% on the day but set to fall 1.5% in September, leaving it roughly flat for the third quarter after a 10% gain in the second quarter.
1. European stocks on track
The STOXX 600 was up 0.6% as September and the third quarter ended. It had risen for five consecutive months before its expected 1.5% monthly decline, and was ending the quarter roughly where it began.
2. Sector and company movers
Utilities led European sectors, up 1.7%, boosted by British utility companies, while oil and gas stocks fell 0.9%. Greggs shares rose close to 6% after it raised its annual profit outlook; Gerresheimer shares gained nearly 5% after reporting a sequential recovery in second-quarter revenue.
