Street view: Duke Energy seen benefiting from expanding infrastructure investment opportunities
DUK•Duke Energy beat third-quarter adjusted profit estimates, helped by infrastructure investment recovery and favorable weather. Analysts see rising power demand and large-load agreements supporting expanded investment opportunities; the median price target from 23 brokerages is $130, with an average “buy” rating.
1. Demand and investment outlook
Scotiabank said rising power demand, particularly from residential customers and large commercial and industrial users, could increase Duke Energy’s capital investment plans and support higher future earnings growth. Evercore ISI said signed large-load agreements and potential expansion reinforce the long-term growth story, while noting that regulatory recovery, construction execution and disciplined funding remain key to translating opportunities into per-share earnings growth.
2. Analyst views
TD Cowen called the third-quarter results “incrementally positive,” citing higher near-term earnings confidence, an expanding generation investment opportunity, continued regulatory de-risking and improved financing visibility. BTIG said projects converting and associated generation being added to the plan should allow investment to rise as projects ramp, creating a runway into the 2030s. Price targets cited were $146 from Scotiabank, $140 from Evercore ISI, $143 from TD Cowen and $139 from BTIG.
