Street View: Verizon's ground game strengthens, but Starlink stays in the conversation
VZ•Verizon lifted its annual wireless subscriber growth outlook and announced an AI infrastructure deal worth more than $2 billion with Amazon Web Services. Analysts said Starlink competition remains a sentiment concern, while Verizon's simplified plans and fiber strategy could help it compete.
1. Starlink risk debated
Morgan Stanley said Verizon's strategic transformation remains a work in progress, with higher interest rates, potential Starlink competition and AI-related pricing pressure weighing on sentiment. MoffettNathanson viewed SpaceX as more of a sentiment overhang than an earnings threat for now, but said the duration of those concerns is difficult to predict.
2. Pricing and competition
Scotiabank said a well-capitalized entrant such as SpaceX would need to compete aggressively on price to gain share, potentially pressuring industry pricing power and valuations ahead of market entry. TD Cowen said Verizon's simplified plans are gaining traction and its fiber convergence strategy strengthens its position against potential Starlink competition.
