Sumitomo Electric, AFL, Corning, TeraHop publish SDM4 multicore fiber MSA spec for AI data centers

Sumitomo Electric joined AFL, Corning, and TeraHop in completing the SDM4 Multicore Fiber MSA, releasing Version 1.0 specifications.
The agreement sets a common four-core multicore fiber baseline for AI data centers, campus networks, and short-reach optical links. The specification is intended to support multi-vendor interoperability and to serve as a reference for future international standard-setting work.
Key parameters include 125 µm cladding, a 2×2 core layout, O-band performance, and crosstalk of −40 dB or less at 1 km.
