Sun Life Asia study flags heirs’ readiness as top risk to preserving family wealth across generations
SLF•A Sun Life Asia study found 70% worry their wealth will not survive the next generation, with heirs’ readiness cited as the top threat by 52% of those concerned. Documented, communicated legacy plans rose to 22% in 2026 from 10% in 2025, while only 20% feel fully prepared to pass on a legacy.
1. Legacy planning concerns
The study found heirs’ readiness ranked as the leading threat to wealth preservation, cited by 52% of concerned respondents, ahead of market volatility at 49%. The share with documented and communicated legacy plans rose to 22% in 2026 from 10% in 2025, while the share with no plan fell to 15% from 31%. Only 20% felt fully prepared to pass on a legacy, little changed from 19% a year earlier. Among high-net-worth respondents, 37% cited poor investment decisions and 29% tax or legal complexity.
