Swedish builder Skanska signs $957 million contract to build light rail transit in California

COPENHAGEN, Aug. 14 (Reuters) - Swedish builder Skanska SKAb.ST said on Friday it had signed a contract worth $957 million with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project in Van Nuys, California, U.S.
- The project includes the construction of a 10.8 kilometre (6.71 mile) at-grade light rail line and a 10.5 hectare (25.95 acre) rail and maintenance facility, Skanska said in a statement.
- It also includes the development of 11 new stations including shade structures and utility improvements.
Order bookings and completion timeline
- Skanska will include the contract in its order bookings for the third quarter of this year.
- The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project expands Metro's transit system, connecting high-density neighbourhoods to the broader Los Angeles County rail network and wider region, according to Skanska.
- Work has begun and the project is expected to be completed in December 2031.
